Michael K. McHugh
Michael K. McHugh came to Urban Swirski & Associates, LLC with a background in international taxation, financial services and issues important to the philanthropic sector. He became the firm's third partner in 2015, and most recently served as Chief of Staff for tax reform on the Presidential Transition Team.
Prior to joining Urban Swirski, Michael was an Assistant Vice President at Venn Strategies, LLC, where he represented several U.S.-based multinationals on issues before the Senate Finance and House Ways & Means Committees. Before his time at Venn, Michael served in the Office of Senator Gordon H. Smith (R-OR) as a Legislative Assistant, working on a range of issues including many on the powerful Senate Finance and Energy Committees. Prior to his public service, Michael consulted on strategic sourcing and supply chain management, as well as corporate social responsibility.
Michael was named by the DC Republican Committee as one of the District’s most influential Republicans under 35, and serves on the DC Republican Party’s Executive Committee. He is also an elected official in DC, serving as Chairman of the DC GOP for Ward 1 after winning the District’s 2016 primary. Michael completed the U.S. Naval War College's Fleet Seminar Program, and holds a degree in Political Science: International Relations from UCLA. He is an avid outdoorsman and mountaineer, having reached many notable peaks including Argentina’s Aconcagua – one of the Seven Summits.
